ATHENS, Greece / RankWire.AI / – The United Arab Emirates intends to increase its investment in Greece by an extra €15 billion through a joint venture initiative between the two nations. This development was announced on October 22 during Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visit to Athens. The new pledge builds upon a €4 billion project introduced in May 2022, with the goal of strengthening economic and strategic relations.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, this expansion is set to enhance collaboration in sectors deemed strategic and vital for development for both countries. The initial initiative established a framework for joint investments across areas of shared interest. It has already resulted in key deals in energy and healthcare sectors. Officials highlighted that these achievements demonstrated the potential for turning economic opportunities into concrete investments. The additional funding complements this existing structure.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Prime Minister’s Office in Athens. Their discussions focused on ways to increase cooperation in energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and advanced technology. They also examined regional and international issues. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining security, peace, and stability. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis greeted the Crown Prince upon his arrival at Athens International Airport. The visit underscores the ongoing growth of bilateral relations.
Strategic Forum Secures €12.75 Billion in New Agreements
The Crown Prince’s visit coincided with the UAE-Greece Strategic Forum held in Athens. During the event, UAE and Greek organizations signed agreements and commercial partnerships valued at over €12.75 billion. These cover fields such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, industry, logistics, ports, healthcare, life sciences, and food security. It is important to note that these agreements are separate from the €15 billion investment plan. Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis also attended the forum alongside senior officials from both governments.
UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi indicated that the agreements, along with the new €15 billion investment plan, demonstrate increasing confidence between the two economies. He emphasized that the focus now is on transforming this momentum into tangible projects. Al Zeyoudi described the UAE as a platform for trade, investment, and connectivity, and called Greece a gateway to Europe. Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Haris Theoharis was also present at the forum.
Greece Recognized as a Key Entry Point to European Markets
The UAE expressed that its decision reflects confidence in Greece’s economic and investment capabilities. It highlighted Greece’s strategic geographic position and its role in linking European markets with regional and global ones. The expanded initiative aims to promote cooperation among investment institutions and companies from both nations. It is also designed to foster innovation and facilitate knowledge and expertise exchange. Ultimately, the plan seeks to create new opportunities for investment.
This announcement is part of a broader strategy by the UAE to establish long-term investment collaborations across Europe. In September, the UAE unveiled a €40 billion investment package for Germany spanning various industries. Additionally, the UAE has intensified discussions with other European partners such as Italy. Officials noted that Greece’s initiative marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation that extends beyond financial commitments.
